Established in 2002, Gingko College of Hospitality Management, or Gingko College for short, grew out of Yinxing Hospitality Management College of CUIT (Chengdu University of Information Technology). With over 10,000 students, Gingko College is a Ministry of Education (MOE)-registered full-time institution of tertiary education.
A Frost & Sullivan report referred to Gingko College, which features hospitality management, as the earliest privately-owned institution of tertiary education in China.
In the 2017 Chinese Universities Evaluation and Study Report, CUAA ranked Gingko College No. 1 among 5 private universities characterized by hospitality management, and ranked its undergraduate programs among the top three out of Sichuan independent colleges. In addition, its Hospitality Management was rated as a six-star program, the top-notch undergraduate programs of independent colleges in China.
Covers an area of around 1,000mu (about 66.67 hectares), the College consists of two campuses. Its main campus, located in Pidu District of Chengdu, is provided with accessible transportation, picturesque environment, well-rounded teaching facilities and domestic installations. Its Yibin Campus, situated in Nanxi District of Yibin, takes pride in its first-class teaching hotel, which can offer students of different disciplines practical training experience.
Dedicated to helping students accomplish themselves and giving back to the society, the College has evolved into an institution of higher education featured by hospitality and tourism management. In school, students are also educated by professionals specializing in management science, literature, art, engineering, education and economics. Over the years of development, it has cultivated skill-savvy talent ready to join the modern service industry. The College offers 25 undergraduate programs and 24 non-degree programs, many of which are rated exemplary programs in Sichuan.
Significantly accentuating the development of its faculty, the College has invited experts from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and its teaching hotel named Hotel ICON, experts from the Statler, teaching hotel of the School of Hotel Administration, Cornell University and experts from Hotel Management School, SEG-Swiss Education Group to inspire its students through seminars and lectures. By doing so, the College has enriched the diversity and greatly improved the abilities of its faculty. Through arduous efforts, the College has built a reasonably structured team of well-rounded teachers. A dozen of its teachers are inscribed into the expert bases of Sichuan and Chengdu tourism and hospitality industry, and actively serve as reviewers for star-rated hotels, A-Level Tourist Attractions, and star-rated rural hotels in Sichuan. In recent three years, teachers of the College have undertaken nearly 200 research projects at national, provincial and ministerial levels, and have published over 1,000 research papers.
The College gives weight to and continuously completes its practice-ready talent cultivation model that incorporates education, practical training, and school-enterprise cooperation. In addition, the College has worked with hundreds of famous enterprises at home and abroad in discipline development, course development, faculty development, construction of practical teaching base and student internship and employment, and established innovative talent cultivation model with domestic and overseas large-scale hotel management enterprises, including Hilton, InterContinental and Marriott.
The College underlines its strategy of international development and has garnered remarkable achievements in the internationalization of course R&D, faculty and teaching model, and in its teachers’ and students’ participation in international activities. In recent years, the College has signed various cooperation agreements with renowned schools of hotel management such as SEG-Swiss Education Group, Prince of Songkla University, and Dusit Thani College, and has conducted in-depth collaboration on a broad spectrum of realms, such as exchange visits, joint teaching, R&D, and promotion of academic certification.
Because of the outstanding abilities of its talent, the College has earned recognition throughout the industry, and its graduates have been much sought after by employers. With the total employment rate of its graduates in recent three years reaching above 96%, the vast majority of Gingko graduates have secured satisfying jobs and become the backbone in the management of enterprises.
