- Commencement of Gingko College of Hospitality Management and Prince of Songkla University Joint MBA Program in Hospitality and Tourism
On the morning of June 10, 2020, the "Gingko College of Hospitality Management and Prince of Songkla University Joint MBA Program in Hospitality and Tourism" forum was successfully held jointly by Gingko College and the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism of the Prince of Songkla University on Tencent's online meeting platform. This online teach-in attracted participation of students and parents from Gingko College's departments of Hotel Management, Tourism Management, Business Administration, Financial Management and Information Engineering Management. The event was hosted by Gingko College Vice President Dr. Fu Jing, and featured Dr. Pornprsanu Promsivapallop and Dr. Chayanon Phucharoen, respectively the Dean and Deputy Dean of Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism (FHT) of the Prince of Songkla University (PSU) as keynote speakers.
The teach-in commenced with a brief introduction from Vice President Dr. Fu Jing about the signing of the university-level Memorandum of Understanding and school-level Memorandum of Agreement at the PSU Phuket Campus last year.
The commencement of the MBA in Hospitality and Tourism between the two schools in 2020 is Gingko's first ever postgraduate program carried out in partnership with a foreign institution of higher education. Faculties from both China and Thailand will work together on collaborative teaching and research, making full use of information technology and the combination of online and offline teaching modes to train international and application-oriented research talents in the field of hospitality and tourism management for the Sichuan-ASEAN region.
Next, Dr. Pornprsanu Promsivapallop, the Dean of FHT, PSU, proceeded with a presentation on the PSU Phuket Campus and FHT. He emphasized the unique strengths for tourism and hospitality education and research inherent in the geographical advantages of both Sichuan and Phuket and expressed great confidence in jointly fostering excellence in this field. Deputy Dean Dr. Chayanon Phucharoen then provided a detailed overview of the features of the MBA program to the attendances including the internationalized course structure, strong faculty background and frequent regional and industry supports.
The cooperation between Gingko and PSU is another new exploration for Gingko to collaborate with reputable foreign universities in the field of hospitality and tourism, opening a new chapter in joint training endeavors. Furthermore, the partnership demonstrates Gingko’s objective and determination in internationalized schooling that answers to the call of the state's Belt and Road development strategy.

- The Yinxing-SEG Summit & the International Forum on Hospitality Management Education Successfully Held
After the strategic MOU signing between Yinxing and Swiss Education Group (SEG), a Summit & the International Forum on Hospitality Management Education was successfully held from December 2-7, 2019 in Yinxing. Led by Mr. John Daly, Director of Teaching Process of SEG and Vice President of International Center of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), the SEG team were warmly welcomed.
On December 2, The Yinxing-SEG Summit was held. Senior management team led by President Li Ming of Yinxing presented. President Li Ming gave a welcome speech to express his appreciation to SEG guests. He emphasized that Yinxing has always adhered to an open mind and heart to a global world.
SEG delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm reception of Yinxing. Mr. John Daly expressed that two sides have maintained deep friendship and close contacts, and have been working together to nurture talents for hospitality. In addition, SEG showed their willingness to further cooperate with Yinxing and hoped to embark on a new journey of cooperation between the two sides.
Afterwards, the Yinxing-SEG International Hotel Management Talent Forum was held from December 3-6. Eight public keynote speeches and five themed seminars were given by lecturers from five hotel schools of SEG (The Swiss Hotel Management School, the Hotel Institute Montreux, Cesar Ritz Colleges, Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland, and International Hotel and Tourism Training Institute). Faculty of Yinxing actively participated in the seminars and shared their visions and ideas in terms of hospitality education.
The meeting has strengthened communication between Yinxing and the SEG, and laid a solid foundation for the future cooperation.

Oriented to the professionals in the national design industry, the "2020 China's Epidemic Prevention - Design Thinking and Action" (also called "Design against the 'Epidemic'"), co-hosted by the Expert Working Committee of China Industrial Design Association, Dragon Design Foundation and Industrial Culture Development Center of MIIT and organized by the Design Strategy and Prototype Innovation Research Institute of the Art & Design Center of Tsinghua University, Dadu Culture Communication Co., Ltd. and the Design magazine, was carried out in the form of a solicitation of design solutions against the "COVID-19".
To play a part in the battle against the "epidemic", the students from the Department of Art Design of our College expressed their determination in winning the battle against the disease through their works designed during the "class suspension" period. Through evaluation, design works of our five students won the Award for Design against the "Epidemic" and were published on the Design Magazine.

- Never Stop Moving, Start a New Journey - Development History of Gingko College of Hospitality Management
On April 22, 2020, the 18th anniversary celebration of Gingko College of Hospitality Management and the Cloud celebration of the transfer unveiling of "Gingko New Journey" were successfully held, which is sure to be written into the glorious development history of the college. A total of more than 14,000 people, including the faculty and students, special guests, alumni and people from all walks of life who care about the development of the college, have witnessed the "New Journey" of Gingko College of Hospitality Management together on the Cloud.
Although the COVID-19 has not yet completely subsided, Gingko people have adopted a novel approach to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the college and the transfer unveiling ceremony, expressing their blessing to the college in a unique way. The epidemic also cannot break the friendship between the college and the community. Zhou Jiliu, Secretary of the Party Committee of Chengdu University of Information Technology, sent a congratulatory video, expressing his appreciation for the cooperation with the college in the past 18 years and his congratulations on the successful transfer of the college. He hoped that he could further strengthen communication and cooperation with the college in the future.
Professor Kaye Chon, dean and chair professor of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and professor of services management of international hotels at Walter Kwok Family Foundation, sent a video saying, "congratulations on the 18th anniversary of Gingko College of Hospitality Management. Original Intentions Not Changed
Since its establishment in 2002, the college has never forgotten the original intention of hospitality education. Despite the hardships, the college has kept down-to-earth, and with indomitable perseverance and outstanding wisdom, has been constantly writing the glorious chapter of China's higher education in hospitality management. The college has always been insisting on the original intention of educating people for the Party and cultivating talents for the country, implementing the fundamental task of cultivating virtuous people, and striving to cultivate application-oriented and high-quality personnel with a strong political qualification, solid foundation, excellent professional ability, high comprehensive quality and an international vision to provide high-level talents and intellectual support for local economic construction and industrial development.
As China's higher education enters a new stage of development, the college, as an application-oriented university, firmly grasps this important strategic opportunity and works hard to forge ahead. The college has made great progress in personnel training, scientific research, and its ability to serve the society, as well as in the running scale and quality.
At present, the college has 25 undergraduate majors and 24 specialized majors, including 2 provincial first-class majors, 4 provincial quality engineering project construction majors, 4 provincial key characteristic specialty construction majors, and 6 majors selected into the construction projects of application-oriented demonstration majors of local universities in Sichuan Province.
The college attaches great importance to and continues to improve the application-oriented talent cultivation mode characterized by industry-education integration and college-enterprise cooperation, and has carried out extensive cooperation with more than one hundred well-known enterprises both in China and foreign countries in professional construction, curriculum development, teaching staff construction, practice teaching base construction and student internship employment and other aspects, and has cooperated with the three hospitality management groups (including the Hilton, InterContinental and Marriott) and other large hospitality management companies both at home and abroad to innovate the professional talent cultivation mode.

According to the Chinese Universities Evaluation and Study Report, CUAA ranked Gingko College`s undergraduate programs among the top three out of Sichuan independent colleges. In addition, its Hospitality Management was rated as a six-star program, the top-notch undergraduate programs of independent colleges in China. Students of our college are generally recognized by employers, and they enjoy both high employments rates and high-level employment.
The international hospitality management groups across the globe have established their own standards, playing a leading role in the industry. They have made long-term plans to grow in China, enjoying a virtual monopoly in the high-end market.
Although some brands of hospitality and tourism have been established in China in recent years, it's hard for them to compete with international ones in standard brands and services, visibility and recognition due to a lack of excellent pioneers and a substantial number of management talents. We should take seriously on having a say in developing international standards for the industry while training professional workers to improve the core competence, in an effort to help China's brands to grow into international ones, participate in the intense global market competition and beat the competitors.
Unfortunately, there are no relevant requirements in line with China's policies on the integration of industry and education, and no training mode of professional works with integration of work and education based on the actual demands of the hospitality industry, and there is a lack of 'Chinese standard' in the global hospitality industry.
Expansion to the South of Sichuan
The board of directors of the college and the party & government leaders determined to build new campus areas, establish a new model and pursue new growth to deal with the difficulties.
Yibin, located in the hub area of the opening up to the south of Sichuan, is a pilot city of China's integration of industry and education. The new campus, located in Nanxi District, Yibin, will become a reform pilot area to catch up with the development of bridgehead and deeply integrated industries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region and to innovate the training mode of practical talents during the implementation of our college's strategy of international development.
We hope to introduce the advanced international philosophy of education and the excellent culture of service management while promoting the splendid culture of Sichuan across the world through a platform by means of exchanges and cooperation with the high-level colleges of hospitality and tourism management in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region. In this way, we may realize the long-term plan of educational cooperation between our college and those in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region.

Cooperation and Joint Construction
The planning and design of the campus in Nanxi District was implemented in line with the latest international educational philosophy on hospitality management, and the construction was started in April 2018. A team of experts, including the President Dr. Kaye Chon, Dr. Cathy Hsu and Dr. Tony Tse from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (SHTM), participated in the construction of the campus in Nanxi District throughout the process. The two sides have conducted in-depth discussions on multiple issues, such as the functional design and layout of hotels, curriculum construction, teacher training, practical training, construction and application of practical teaching resources, etc. The President Kaye Chon of the SHTM appreciated our educational philosophy and expressed his willing to have a further cooperation with our college upon the field investigation in the campus in Nanxi District in October 2019. With joint efforts, we hope to become models of hospitality management education in Asia and make contributes to the training of professional workers of the industry across the globe.

Integration of Industry and Education
Guided by the regional development and industry demands, our college has been promoting the reform of professional training mode in recent years. We have established cooperation relationship with multiple companies of the hospitality industry in various fronts, such as development of a training program of professionals, building of teaching teams and examination and evaluation. In that case, those companies are able to participate in all sectors of professional training, which enables the capacity of the application-oriented professionals to be recognized by the industry.
A high-end forum for the global hospitality industry was held in the Ritz Carlton Chengdu in September 25, 2019, which is a closed-door roundtable forum with participants of general managers of the industry hosted by our college. Our college discussed with a dozen of general managers of international hotel brands on how to advance the cooperation, in order to cultivate innovative management talents for the hospitality industry with distinctive Chinese characteristics who are capable of meeting the global standards of the industry.
Mr. Richard Adie, the former general manager of the Statler Hotel at Cornell University, who had been working for 18 years in the hotel visited our college on the morning of September 30, 2019. He came to the Simple Café mainly operated by students and praised the coffee after tasting, leaving a message to all the students in handwriting:

In addition, Mr. Richard Adie appreciated the practical teaching method of operating a cafe in the college. He believed that this teaching method may help students to put the theoretical knowledge into practice and participate in the whole process, which is conductive to the improvement of students' professional capacity.
Our college built a teaching hotel with 'Gingko standards' in the campus in Nanxi District, a landmark building in the campus, by taking example by teaching hotel models of global first-class colleges of hospitality management such as the Statler Hotel at Cornell University and the Hotel ICON. As a 'teaching hotel', it offers various practical courses of hospitality management that enable students who major in the hospitality and tourism management to conduct comprehensive practice and professional training and practice, creating an actual scene for their practice. The layout and decoration style of the floors of the first teaching hotel are different from each other, which is designed to meet the requirements for the practical teaching of different functional layout. There are floors of business hotels, comfort hotels and luxury hotels with real guests to meet the teaching requirements, which enable students to observe and experience the operation and management of hotels in an actual scene. In this way, students' professional capacity will be significantly improved.

The 18-year development process of our college vividly displays the interaction between China's higher education and the hospitality and tourism industry. From our perspective, the hotel is not only a form of business, but also represents an advanced culture of putting the interests of others above ourselves', being open and tolerant, taking quality seriously and leading the fashion.
We will devote ourselves to building the school into a first-class and world-renowned college of hospitality management in China. We explain our targets on three aspects as follows: First, we will improve the top-level design and lay a solid foundation for the infrastructure development by taking the opportunity of the successful establishment of the college. Secondly, we will advance the reform of education and teaching, stimulate the vitality of school running, strive for a major breakthrough in the integration of industry and education, and develop professional Master's programs, extending our college' influence in the western China. We are well aware that there are much more efforts to be made for running a college of hospitality management, given that we have no experiences to learn from. - Celebrate the College's Successful Establishment as Gingko College of Hospitality Management
According to the Letter of the Ministry of Education on Approval of the Transformation of Yinxing Hospitality Management College of Chengdu University of Information Technology (CUIT) into Gingko College of Hospitality Management (JFH  No. 15) recently released, our College has been successfully transformed into a regular four-year college with an independent organizational system and has officially renamed as Gingko College of Hospitality Management. It is a milestone in the history of our College, marking that we have entered a new stage of development.
Since the establishment in 2002, the College keeps growing with the support of the organizer and has gradually developed into one with clear school-running orientation, mature educational philosophy, a complete school-running resource system and prominent industrial advantages. The successful transformation to an independent regular college shows that the College's strength and quality of school running have achieved a higher level, creating conditions for the innovative development and great-leap-forward development of the College in the future. All school-running conditions of our College have reached or exceeded the standards for the setting-up of regular colleges, so that it passed the evaluation carried out by the expert group of the Ministry of Education successfully, which shows a full recognition of the government on our correct school-running orientation, unremitting efforts and diligence, exploration and innovation, as well as our school-running level and comprehensive strength, and will spur us to continue to seek development and make progress in the future.
The College after the transformation is a full-time regular four-year college with an independent organizational system. The new college - Gingko College of Hospitality Management will, on the nearly two decades of successful school-running basis of the original Yinxing Hospitality Management College of CUIT, further manifest the existing school-running experience and indomitable 'Gingko Spirit' and uphold the philosophy of "fulfill the students and serve the society" to earnestly fulfill our responsibilities of education, teaching and management, and at the same time give full play to the independent school-running mechanism to enhance the internal construction, enlarge school-running investment, stick to the applicable, characteristic and internationalized school-running path, so as to improve the talent cultivation quality, broaden our social influence and lead the tens of thousands of Gingko students to a brighter future.

- Online Teaching of the College Started in Smooth and Orderly Way in the New Semester
It was the first day of online teaching of the college on February 24, and the courses were taught online for 307 times, with online students of 27581 person times. The teachers made full use of various course platforms, such as Chaoxing Xuexitong, Rain Classroom, Chinese University MOOC, Wisdom Tree, WeChat, QQ, Dingding and Tencent Class, to communicate with and tutor students, and carried out online teaching according to the schedule. The academic affairs office, teaching supervision office and academic units investigated and surveyed the running status of online teaching. The teachers and students of the college all participated actively with full energy, and the online teaching operation on the first day was stable and orderly.
In order to organize the online teaching for the whole school, the college leaders attached great importance to it and made several work arrangements via online meetings. Since February 4, 2020, the academic affairs office and academic units have established the online teaching group to prepare the online teaching under a tight schedule. The academic affairs office carried out online teaching platform testing and research, issued the Notice on the Adjustment of Teaching Mode during COVID-19 Prevention and Control Period in Spring Semester of the Academic Year 2019-2020, carried out a quick class to interpret the notice, organized teachers and students to conduct online teaching and training, conducted tests to know the real situation of students and before class, and provided the guarantees for basic conditions of online teaching.
In case of possible network congestion or platform system breakdown in a short period of time, the academic units at all levels actively responded to online teaching requirements, worked together to formulate emergency plans, and organized teachers to carry out online teaching in various forms via different channels. The academic units have written the Letter to All Students in the New Semester to encourage students to study in a calm and active attitude, and deliver the online teaching and learning methods to students to ensure the quality of online teaching. According to students, the teaching effect was good with rich contents in the class.
In terms of the condition of online teaching on the first day, the teaching operation was stable and in order, and the teaching effect basically reached the expectation, which reflected that the teachers and students of Ginkgo College could overcome difficulties and have the practical spirit to fight against adverse circumstances. The college hopes that all the teachers and students can continue to maintain a good spirit during the special period and make every class a success to overcome the tough condition caused by COVID-19.

- Kicking-off the Soft-Opening Ceremony of Yinxing’s Nanxi Campus
On December 30, 2019, the Nanxi Campus of Yinxing welcomed a soft opening. Distinguished guests from local governments, partner universities and industry, as well as Gingko and Yinxing’s representatives attended the ceremony.
The Nanxi Campus covers an area of nearly 600mu (35.3 hectare), with a building area of 139,000 square meters, including three world-class hotels, executive buildings, demonstrative area, service apartments and dormitories, canteens and restaurants, supermarkets and sports venues etc. have been completing as planned and will be put into use step by step. The new campus will become a brand-new high-end teaching and training base, cutting-edge research center for modern services industry such as hospitality and tourism.
Gingko·Stardard, the first teaching hotel has become one of the iconic buildings on the Nanxi Campus, which has obtained valuable experiences and great supports from experts of Hong Kong PolyU's SHTM+Hotel ICON consultancy team and Mr. Richard Adie, who served Cornell’s teaching hotel, Statler Hotel, as General Manager for 18 years.
In order to meet the practical teaching needs, the layout and functionality of each floor of the first teaching hotel are different, e.g. rooms and services of budget, business, boutique and luxury hotels. On December 12, the 2019 "Gingko Cup" Tourism & Hotel + Innovation & Entrepreneurship for College Students in Sichuan Province, co-organized by the Sichuan Education Foundation and the College, was grandly held in the multi-function hall of the College, which attracted 22 projects brought by 19 colleges and universities, including Sichuan Normal University, Chengdu University of Information Technology and Xihua University. President Li Ming, on the behalf of the College, first delivered a speech to welcome the presence of all the leaders, experts, as well as teachers and students participating in the competition, and gave an introduction to the background and purpose of carrying out this event. He said that this event combined the school-running advantages of the College in the tourism & hotel field and integrated the practical issues of the industry closely with the needs for innovation and entrepreneurship, in an effort to focus on the "tourism & hotel+" innovation and entrepreneurship sector, form new momentum, and create a new ecology in the industry, with the characteristics of multi-industrial fusion and intensified innovation and creation. He added that the College would further focus on meeting the requirements for development of the tourism & hotel industry, continue to deepen the reform in education and teaching, and continue to carry out "Gingko Cup" activities and expand its influences. And he hoped that the "Gingko Cup" would contribute more to the cultivation of talents for the development of the hospitality industry.
Speech by President Li Ming
Di Zhijun, chairman and secretary-general of Sichuan Education Foundation expressed that to carry out innovation and entrepreneurship education is not only the need of the national innovation-driven development strategy, but also the need of improving the quality of talent cultivation in higher education. This event perfectly met the practical needs for innovation in the hotel and tourism industry, which was conductive to the sustainable development of the industry.

Following the speeches, the mentor employment ceremony of the 2019 "Gingko" Cup Tourism & Hotel + Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition was carried out. Six experts from China Agricultural University (CAU), including Associate Professor Hou Biao, were hired as judges and mentors, nine persons from the industry, including Zhou Kai, artistic consultant of Chengdu Culture and Art Communication Co., Ltd., and seven persons from colleges and universities, including Li Qiang, deputy secretary of Chinese Communist Youth League Committee of Sichuan Normal University, were hired as guest mentors.
The competition was conducted at the street, where 22 innovation & entrepreneurship projects of the tourism & hotel category brought by colleges and universities in Sichuan were presented successively. With the understanding and comprehension of the tourism & hotel industry, the students presented their innovation & entrepreneurship achievements with confidence and enthusiasm, winning constant applause from the guests, teachers and other students at the scene.
In the end, the "New Identity of Hotel AI" project brought by the student of our College won the first prize after obtaining general consent of all judges at the spot. Through competition, one first prize, three second prizes, five third prizes, six awards for excellence, and fifteen awards for best organization finally came out.
Li Songwei, one of the participants of our College said, "Now we have a better understanding of the future of the tourism and hotel industry, and I've learned how to combine our professional theories to form effective solutions for the market". Zhang Yi, another participant from A Ba Teachers University said, "It's an experience I'll never forget, and I've benefited a lot from the competition, because I learned, experienced, and felt a sense of accomplishment in this process".

On November 22, the Non-Government Education Office of Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, Sichuan Association for Non-Government Education, Higher Education Major Committee of Sichuan Association for Non-Government Education, and the research center of Sichuan Association for Non-Government Education held the "Seminar of Provincial Private High-level University Construction & Commendation Meeting of Connotation Construction Achievements" in Jinghu Hotel, Deyang. Li Ming, dean of the college, Li Li, deputy director of academic affairs office, and the award-winning representatives of the college participated in the meeting.
The meeting has two parts in the agenda, the opening & award ceremony and the exchange & speech. Relevant leaders of the Non-Government Education Office of Sichuan Provincial Department of Education and Qu Zhi, the director of Deyang Education Bureau attended the meeting and put forward the hope and requirements for the development of non-government funded education. Moreover, principals of some private colleges and universities and award-winning representatives made speeches.
In this meeting, the delegates of the colleges and other non-government colleges had thorough exchanges and communication in aspects of the concept of school running, talent training mode, faculty construction, etc. In addition, the college further strengthened the understanding of connotation development, and defined the direction of the school running in the future more clearly through communication.
